The Confidence mine was discovered in 1853 and developed by Ben Holladay, from the Pony Express. 

It soon became the richest gold mine in California.

 The Confidence Inn serviced the area and has been family owned and operated to this day. 

The Confidence Inn has been a general store, post office, school, restaurant, inn and saloon.  In fact, there is not much that this historic landmark has not been!
